Dr. Chan
Joe Chan, Ph.D., M.D. was born in China,
and earned his medical degree at the University
of California, Davis and an engineering
Ph.D. at Stanford University.
He combined his medical internship with
psychiatric training at St. Mary’s
Hospital in San Francisco, began working
in psychiatry, and then finished a residency
at Napa State Hospital in Napa, CA.
Dr. Chan has practiced in San Francisco,
Oakland, Berkeley, and other Bay Area cities,
in areas of medicine often underserved by
healthcare professionals, such as clinics
and institutions geared toward the homeless
and those with substance abuse issues. He
has also practiced in the fields of mental
health, alcohol addiction, and HIV/AIDS
and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Dr. Chan has also pursued studies outside
of mainstream medicine, such as workshops
completed at the Esalen Institute, a center
focused on personal growth and renowned
for studies in alternative and experiential
education.
Dr. Chan is in private practice and provides
individual patient consultations, services
to clinics and residential care homes, and
workshops in natural healing techniques.
